Patience for Powder
With an upcoming military deployment that would mean years of separation between owner and dogs – attempts were made to rehome all pets in the home. Sadly, there was one dog that hadn’t found a home, and it was with great remorse that the dog owner surrendered his beloved pet to IMHS. Puffer, a 7 year old malamute who had never known anything but her human and her pack, totally shut down upon arriving at the shelter. Hiding as far back in the kennel as possible, she shran

New partner to the Volunteer of the Month program: StageDoor Theatre
The IMHS board is always looking for new partners for our Volunteer of the Month program. Our newest partner, starting this October, is the Conifer community staple and also a non-profit: StageDoor Theatre.
Thanks to the staff and board there, they'll offer our volunteer of the month 2 free tickets to an upcoming show. The StageDoor 2017/2018 season is particularly engaging and fun! http://www.stagedoortheatre.org/current-season-1
StageDoor joins our two existing partners:

Dancing Cowboys, Grub and Rustling!
Changing up a tried and true event, Cause for Paws 2017 (C4P) went from a daytime silent auction to a night time barn dance with no auction and was a big, bold move. This was an event made for and enjoyed by all ages! The younger partners had loads of fun in the kids zone rustling horses, slingin' darts and more! Folks genuinely had a blast listening to the rockin' music and square dancin' and want us to do this again next year! Watch for the 2018 date in the IMHS printed cal

Augusts Volunteer of the Month
This month we have a team of two special volunteers that we would like to recognize ... Bob and Karen Burden Bob began volunteering at IMHS by transporting cats from New Mexico. I was one of the first trainers with Bob and we spent a delightful day driving, I learned that Bob was a retired police officer and lawyer. I did not meet his better half, wife Karen, until later when she too started volunteering by helping Bob take cats down to the pet stores. Then they began helping

The Results Are In!
IMHS, in general, and the fundraising team specifically, are not ones to do the same ol', same ol'. This year the new fundraising committee pushed the envelope and it paid off.
As of writing, we have a rough estimate of total attendees the total amount raised for our cause. Around 200 people (including the performers and volunteers)! Over $9000 raised at the 2017 Cause for Paws event! Yippee! Yahoo! Woot, Woot!

Animal Education Program at IMHS
Did you know that in 2017 IMHS started a new series of FREE pet-related educational classes for our community? As part of our mission and vision statement, we strive to educate pet stewards in Park County and the surrounding communities, and that was a catalyst in creating this outreach series. The series topics for this year include: "What To Expect After Adopting" "How To Pick The Perfect Pet For You" "The Human/Animal Abuse Connection" "Making End Of Life Decisions For You

THANKS Partners!
The fundraising team and volunteers had loads of help in making the 2017 Cause for Paws a huge success. We had great involvement from individuals, groups and businesses from Conifer to Fairplay! The food by Saucy Buns was amazing, the band, Rowdy Country Combo, was fantastic, the line dancing instructor Jeremiah Torbit and the Ridge Runner Square Dancer group provided lots of fun and jubilant energy. The kids zone games were a blast while the adult game section also raised mo

Help for Houston
This week IMHS teamed up with a local veterinarian, Dr Sheila Rice-Watkins of Crow Hill Pet Hospital to provide support for those affected by hurricane Harvey. In under a week Dr Sheila pulled together a team of people to go, rented an RV and got two trucks with horse trailers to caravan down with her. IMHS of course was thrilled to help network and this amazing community filled both horse trailers to the brim with supplies for both the humans and the pets surviving this trag
