Veterinary Service Program Services Donation Opportunities for Medical and Veterinary Medical Professions Needs for the Office Expansion and Volunteer Opportunities

The Veterinary Service Program will provide veterinary care for animals in the custody of Intermountain Humane Society and animals in the care of other licensed animal welfare agencies.  The VSP cannot provide care for animals that are in the custody of individual owners.  We have established working relationships with many local veterinary clinics to provide care for animals with homes already and will continue to work with these veterinarians for any such services that IMHS may need to provide.  We will also provide some services for feral cats and wildlife.  Dr. Kevin Dennison will provide almost all of these services and brings 22 years of practice experience to Intermountain Humane Society.  Details of services are as follows:

bulletRoutine Care for foster or shelter animals, including examination, viral testing, vaccination, fecal parasite testing and anti-parasite treatment
bulletTreatment of illness or injury, dental care, diagnostic testing and general surgical care for foster or shelter animals
bulletSterilization (spaying and neutering)
bulletEvaluation, viral testing, vaccination and sterilization for feral (asocial/wild) cats under the conditions of our feral cat program.
bulletTreatment of ill or injured stray pets
bulletTreatment of ill or injured wild animals in cooperation with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and local licensed wildlife rehabilitation centers.
bulletTemperament Testing and Behavioral Evaluation for foster and shelter animals.

Again, the VSP cannot provide care for pets already in the care of individuals, either after final adoption or for animals in the permanent custody of individuals.  Dr. Dennison's contract for the sale of his practice strictly prohibits treatment of non-humane society animals.  We will provide additional services through local private practices, including:

bulletSterilization assistance pets of families in need of assistance.  We are developing a voucher program to utilize assistance from local practices.  We can also refer individuals to subsidized pets sterilization programs in the Denver-Metro Area.
bulletInjured stray animal after hours assistance:  We will work with local veterinarians and Metro Denver Emergency Centers to provide care for injured stray pets and wildlife after hours (if Dr. Dennison is not available).
bulletWe provide an option for animals whose owners decline life-saving treatment through their local veterinarian where a reasonable prognosis is expected.  Adoptable animals under these circumstances can be taken into IMHS custody and treated by IMHS or local practitioners as appropriate.  Once recovered, these pets are then placed into our adoption program.
