Adoption Guidelines
At Intermountain Humane Society our goal is to find the right, "forever" home for the dogs and cats that come under our care. We do not adopt on a first-come, first-serve basis. instead, we do our best to make sure that the pet being considered for adoption meets the needs of the adopter, and vice versus.
If you are interested in adopting a pet from IMHS you must complete a detailed application form which asks several questions about you and what you're looking for in an animal companion. In order to make the best match of people and pets, we need to know about your home, family (including other pets) and lifestyle. We request references to verify your history as a pet owner.
We ask that all members of a family interested in a pet come in and meet the animal before the application can be approved. Likewise, for dog adoptions, any dogs currently living with the potential adopter must be brought to the IMHS shelter to assess how the dogs will respond to each other.
If multiple applications are received and approved for the same pet, then and only then will a "first-come-to-the-best-home" rule apply.

Animals may be met at the IMHS shelter in Pine Junction (near the intersection of U.S. Highway 285 and Mt. Evans Blvd/Route 126). The shelter is in the back of the Log Building, just west of the Cruz-In Diner and Panda Garden Restaurant. See a map to the IMHS Shelter.

Dog Adoption Fees
Before adoption, all IMHS dogs receive the following services: veterinary exam; spay/neuter surgery; distemper, bordatella and rabies vaccinations (as appropriate for their age at time of adoption); dewormer; microchip insertion. The average cost to have these services performed at a veterinary clinic: $496.00!
The adoption fee charged reflects the services performed. Our adoption fees vary, but are generally:

Cat Adoption Fees
Before adoption all IMHS cats receive the following services: veterinary exam; spay/neuter surgery; testing for FeLV/FIV; distemper and rabies vaccinations (as appropriate for their age at the time of adoption); dewormer; microchip insertion. The average cost to have these services performed at a veterinary clinic: $360.00!
The adoption fee charged reflects the services peformed. Our adoption fees vary, but are generally:

Intermountain Humane Society does not receive funds from any governmental or municipal agency. The shelter operates entirely on monies collected from adoption fees, surrender fees, donations and fund-raisers.
