Please Join the IMHS Team of Volunteers, Every Moment
Counts!
 | Foster Homes: We desperately need responsible foster homes to
take in homeless or unwanted animals for a limited period of time.
Generally that ranges from a few days to a few weeks.
Foster homes work with dogs, teaching manners, housetraining and other
necessary skills that some of our dogs lack. We try to evaluate each
dog's temperament in an experienced foster home prior to moving them to a less
experienced home in order to maximize safety for everyone. Foster homes
must coordinate with our office staff in getting these animals to veterinary
appointments and adoption displays. The benefits and inner
rewards are unmatched! |
 | Adoption Display Volunteers:
Adoption displays are held each
Saturday from 9am to 3pm. We have two categories of volunteers at
displays, Adoption Counselors and Display Volunteers. The Adoption
Counselors interview people and try to match pets with appropriate animals.
These volunteers have attended many adoption displays and trained extensively
in the IMHS adoption procedure. Display volunteers help by walking dogs
and handling cats, helping people understand how IMHS adoption displays work,
cleaning and training with an Adoption Counselor to learn adoption procedures. Training is provided by IMHS. |
 | Disaster Preparedness and Management:
In cooperation with Park County Animal
Control, Jefferson County Animal Control and the Colorado Federation of Animal
Welfare Agencies, IMHS needs local volunteers who are willing to help our
community prepare to care for animals during a disaster and to carry out those
plans in the event of a disaster. Volunteer opportunities include:
Equine Transportation, Equine Care, Pet evacuation and housing, Public
Information Booth Staff, Volunteer Training and Public Education.
|
 | Office Volunteers: We have volunteer openings in our
administrative office for volunteers. Volunteers must commit to at least
one half-day each week. Often our office volunteers are paired with or
share duties with Veterinary Service Program volunteers, as we may do surgery
for a while, then spend the remainder of the day on office related projects.
|
 | Facility Repair and Maintenance Volunteers: We
sometimes need people
experienced in facility maintenance, including painting, finish carpentry,
repairs and other crafts to help with refurbishing projects. |
 | Board of Directors: Business leaders, community minded
citizens and professionals can contribute their time and professional skills to
IMHS through the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets once
monthly to discuss IMHS goals and policies. You will be asked to
attend several Board Meetings and become a integral part of our organization. |
