Foster Homes Needed

IMHS dogs and puppies are housed exclusively in foster homes.  We don't have kennels at the shelter, except temporary kennels for use on Saturday morning adoption displays.  We typically can house from 4-8 dogs and a litter or two of puppies in our organization.  Unfortunately, the demand is far in excess or our capacity.  We need two things:  One is more foster homes and the other (long-term goal here) is a permanent shelter.  If you can be a foster home, please contact us at 303-838-2668.  If you would like to donate toward a shelter facility, we are currently developing a preliminary plan for a new facility and would welcome your donation!
Charlie Charlie is a aussie shepherd mix who was wandering around lake george for 4 months and he had to be tranquilized to be bought in. he is 9 months old and just the sweetest thing. He is doing well in his foster home and has been going to the bathroom outside now! He is a heart tugger.
Rosie Rosie is a very sweet 9 month old Pit Bull.  She is very dog friendly and would do best in a home without small children.
Mac A two year old Mutt who is full of energy but very loving.
Bailey A beautiful border collie mix who is a 4 year old boy. Nice hiking buddy.
Ella Very sweet and loving shepherd mix who came in very head shy but warms up very fast. About 1
Boss A 4 year old aussie who just needs some love. Well behaved and handsome.

Additional Dogs

We may also have additional dogs and cats not listed here that have entered our program within the last week.  Please check our displays for additional pets or call 303-838-2668.

When you adopt a dog or a puppy from IMHS (or any shelter/rescue) you must be patient and careful when introducing the new dog into the household.  Interactions with other pets, learning household routines and housebreaking may all be issues with adopted pets.  We try to let new families know as much as possible about these pets, but we may not know every aspect of the pets behavior and level of training.  We ask that new guardians of adopted pets exercise the following:

bulletPatience:  Newly adopted pets can exhibit a wide variety of behaviors, from happiness to fear, excitability to inactivity.  Give them time to adjust and learn to interact with family members and other pets in a controlled manner.
bulletCaution:  We try to find out as much as we can about these pets, but sometimes we cannot totally predict how dogs will behave with other pets (such as cats and small dogs), children and strangers.  Please use adequate caution to make sure that your newly adopted pet is introduced to pets, children and new people under closely controlled circumstances.
bulletTreat All New Dogs Like Puppies:  You don't always get the perfect dog on the first day.  Good dogs come from a culmination of training, love and patience.  Don't assume that your new pet is completely trained in the ways of your household.  Instead, assume that you need to provide housetraining and obedience training for your new pet.  Most adults learn these concepts very quickly.  If you need help with  this situation, please call us for suggestions.

The following services are provided for all IMHS sheltered animals:
bulletVeterinary Examination and appropriate vaccinations
bulletSterilization:  All animals will be sterilized prior to leaving (including all puppies and kittens)

bulletWe provide a wide variety of veterinary care on-site for our sheltered animals, including dental care, parasite treatment, grooming, removal of growths, treatment of orthopedic problems and treatment of a variety of other issues.
bulletThe cost of housing and caring for individual animals may exceed $300.  Our adoption fees only cover a portion of the real cost of finding new homes for these pets.
bulletAll newly adopted animals receive a certificate for a free examination and brief consultation with participating local veterinarians that is good for one week.
bulletPersons interested in adopting animals should contact IMHS at 303-838-2668 or come to a Saturday adoption display at the IMHS office in Pine Junction.  Adoptions are based on suitability of the people and animals for each other as determined by IMHS volunteers and the adopting party.
