Veterinary Service Program Services Donation Opportunities for Medical and Veterinary Medical Professions Needs for the Office Expansion and Volunteer Opportunities

Intermountain Humane Society is in the process of expanding our current Adoptions Center and adding a Veterinary Service Program facility.   We are expanding our leased space in the Log Building (just southwest of the Woodside Inn in the rear of our building) to include the entire lower floor.  We are in the process of obtaining a conditional use permit from Park County for this use.  Park County seems to be very helpful and cooperative in this process, but a show of support from IMHS supporters would be most helpful.  You can express your support for our expansion by contacting the Park County Board of Commissioners, P.O. Box 1373, Fairplay, CO  80440, or call 719-836-4201.

This expansion in possible, in part, by the planned hiring of Dr. Kevin Dennison as IMHS Executive Director.  Dr. Dennison recently sold the small animal portion of Lone Rock Veterinary Clinic to Dr. Lori Johnson.  Dr. Dennison will still maintain partial ownership of the large animal practice (now called Peak Veterinary Service) along with Dr. Jena Questen.  Dr. Dennison will split his time between Intermountain Humane Society and Peak Veterinary Service and Peak Veterinary Service will sub-lease part of their adjacent facility in the same building to IMHS for the Veterinary Service Program offices.  This arrangement will allow maximally efficient use in Dr. Dennison's time in coordinating his many responsibilities.

Dr. Dennison is becoming our Executive Director in order to advance many goals for IMHS, including:

Opening our office most business days using Dr. Dennison and volunteers to maintain closer contact with the public.
Expand our volunteer base and numbers of foster homes
Add a veterinary facility in order to provide veterinary care for animal in our program and animals in the care of other licensed animal welfare agencies, including organizations such as Park County Animal Control and Evergreen Animal Protective League.
Utilize our veterinary facility to provide care for injured or ill stray animals.
Utilize our veterinary facility to help local wildlife rehabilitation centers and the Colorado Division of Wildlife care for injured or ill wild animals.
Continue our active support of the Colorado Federation of Animal Welfare Agencies, particularly the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Actively continue the IMHS goal of bringing the community together in support of a permanent regional animal sheltering facility for Southwestern Jefferson County and Park County.  This is a central goal of the Board of Directors!

We have received funding for most of the major equipment needed for our veterinary facility, but we still need some additional major equipment, a variety of minor equipment, veterinary supplies, general kennel supplies and some office equipment and supplies.  The Animal Assistance Foundation, a key supporter of many animal welfare agencies in Colorado has provided funding for much of our major equipment.  We have also received support for general operations and our capital fund for an animal shelter from the Mary Elizabeth Bates Foundation and the Dr. Mary E. Bates Trust.  We thank these two organizations for their benevolent support of IMHS.  A full listing of our needs for the office expansion and the Veterinary Service Program can be viewed by clicking here.
