A Bright Future...
Thanks to you!
We've come a long way in the last couple years. We've leapt over several hurdles to hit some major milestones. It's all because of you, our volunteers and donors, YOU our dedicated support group. As a small rural animal welfare shelter we can only operate with the support of the community and 2019 proved to be the mark of that support.
A Home of our Own
The other day I invested a little time in reviewing about 5 years of minutes from the board of directors. I wanted to learn if there was any wisdom I could glean from them that we could apply as we move forward. It revealed two things, one was the dedication of past directors and volunteers to ensure that operations were accomplished efficiently and effectively.
The other and most enlightening, was the interest in a home of our own. A place we could call ours was an overarching goal year after year...
And, this year we made it a reality!
That's a big accomplishment, one that should make every person who has been involved with the shelter for all these years proud. Great wisdom was shown in planning, saving, and preparing for this moment and we plan to make the most of it.
If you have been by the shelter lately, you will notice we have moved our offices to the cabin to make space in the main building to expand the thrift shop. We have also moved the clinic back downstairs to make space available for receiving and sorting thrift shop donations. We have fenced the entire property for the security of the animals in our care and have added stairs to the side of the building to eliminate the bobsled run we once had every winter. To further improve safety for everyone, we are adding a staircase inside the building for the shop and that is making many people smile! One of our goals is to be recognized as the number one thrift/retail option in the Conifer to Bailey area.
Planning for the Future
2018 was a year of discovery and examination. 2019 became the year of change through acquisition and growth. The promise of 2020 is expanded programing, and community outreach, and excellence in everything we do for our mountain community.
As a result of a great deal of research, reflection, and critical thinking by the board, staff, and key volunteers, we have the basis for a strategic plan that will direct our focus for the foreseeable future.
Much of our plan is based upon the direction that animal welfare is taking in Colorado and and our rural community. By adopting the tenets of socially conscious animal sheltering, we are directing our focus towards aligning our policies with the needs of the community. That means more programming beyond adoptions and expanding our operations to meet the demands of the population growth we are experiencing. The plan should be ready for implementation by the end of the month and we'll be sure to share it with you, because for us to succeed, we will need your continued support.
In the mean time, thank you for a great 2019 and a bright 2020! We can not do it without your support.
